Airport Transfer Guide

Entebbe Airport to Kampala — book a Tinka, skip the overcharging.

The airport rank quotes UGX 150,000+. A Tinka sedan via the new Entebbe Expressway is closer to UGX 95,000. Book before you walk out of arrivals — the difference goes back in your pocket.

What an Entebbe-to-Kampala taxi actually costs

Real quotes from real rides, mid-2026. If anyone quotes you UGX 200,000+, they are testing how new you are.

How you book Typical fare Time Notes
Tinka (sedan, expressway) ~UGX 95,000 30–45 min Fixed price shown before booking. Fares round down to clean shillings.
Bolt (sedan) UGX 100,000–110,000 30–45 min Driver waits a week for his cut. Sometimes affected by surge.
Uber (sedan) UGX 105,000–120,000 30–45 min Surge pricing common on Friday evenings and rainy days.
Airport rank "fixed" taxi UGX 150,000+ 45–90 min "It is the rate." It is not the rate.
Boda boda (don't, with luggage) ~UGX 50,000 90 min+ You'll regret it by Najjanankumbi. Potholes that swallow side mirrors.

The three routes drivers will use

Entebbe Airport sits about 35–40 km from central Kampala. Which route your Tinka driver picks depends mainly on the time of day. All three are normal — none of them are wrong.

🛣️ Entebbe Expressway — the fast one

Toll ~UGX 5,000 for a sedan. Cuts the trip to under 30 minutes from airport to Munyonyo. Best choice after 4pm or if you have an early meeting. Tinka factors the toll into your fare so there's no awkward "give me extra for the toll" moment.

🌳 Entebbe Road — the pretty one

Direct route through Kajjansi and Najjanankumbi. Lovely views, but slow during peak hours and a traffic mess approaching the city after 5pm.

🛤️ Northern Bypass — the smart one

Adds 5–10 km but skips the Najjanankumbi traffic. Worth it for evening arrivals or if your destination is on the northern half of Kampala (Ntinda, Bukoto, Kyebando, Bweyogerere).

How to book Tinka from Entebbe arrivals

  1. 1

Install Tinka before you board — or use Entebbe's free Wi-Fi

The airport Wi-Fi is free, works in arrivals, and is fast enough to install and sign up. Don't walk outside without a confirmed ride — that's how you end up surrounded by drivers all quoting "fixed prices."

  2. 2

Open Tinka, pin your destination, see the fare

No quote negotiations. The price you see is the price you pay — rounded down to the nearest UGX 500.

  3. 3

Walk to the designated ride-app pickup zone

It's near the short-stay car park — look for the small ride-app signs. Three-minute walk from arrivals.

  4. 4

Pay how you want — cash, MTN MoMo, Airtel Money

If you only have UGX 100,000 notes from the ATM, mobile money saves the "no change" awkwardness. UGX 95,000 fare → UGX 95,000 paid, exact.

Why we built Tinka with this exact trip in mind

The Entebbe-to-Kampala trip is one of the most overcharged journeys in Uganda. Travelers land, don't know what's normal, and end up paying double or triple the real fare. There was no easy way to compare.

Now there is. Tinka shows you the fare before you book. Your phone tracks the driver coming to you. The bill rounds down to a clean number. No "I don't have change" awkwardness when you're tired from a flight.

If you're flying in soon, install Tinka before you board. Your first 500 metres are free — and if you want to share the trip with family while you're on the road, one tap does it.

Land at Entebbe. Skip the overcharging.
