We collect only what we need to make rides work:

• Account information: name, phone number, email address.
• Location data: GPS during active trips, to match you with drivers and calculate fares.
• Payment information: mobile-money number or card details, processed via certified payment partners (Stripe, PawaPay). Tinka does not store full card numbers.
• Device data: IP address, device model, operating system, browser type.
• Usage data: trip history, ratings, support messages.

To deliver the service and improve it:

• Match riders with drivers and calculate fares.
• Process payments and confirm bookings.
• Send trip status notifications and important account updates.
• Investigate complaints and improve safety.
• Comply with legal obligations in Uganda and other jurisdictions where we operate.

We do not sell personal data. We share only with:

• Your driver — name and pickup location, so they can find you.
• Service providers — payment processors, SMS gateways, mapping providers, hosting (under written data-processing agreements).
• Authorities — only when legally required, or to protect rights and safety.

We use TLS encryption in transit, encrypted database storage at rest, and restricted internal access. Mobile-money credentials are tokenised by our payment partners — we never see the raw numbers. We test our security regularly.

Under Uganda's Data Protection and Privacy Act (2019), you can:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate data.
• Request deletion of your account and data (some records retained for legal/financial obligations).
• Opt out of marketing communications.

Our website uses essential cookies for login sessions and language preference, plus Google Analytics for aggregate usage statistics. You can disable cookies in your browser; some features may not work without them.

Tinka is not intended for users under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a child has signed up, contact us and we will remove the account.

We may update this policy as the law or our service changes. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Substantial changes will be announced via the app and email.
