Terms of Service

The terms that apply when you use Tinka as a rider or a driver. Use Tinka and you accept these terms.

1. Who we are

"Tinka" refers to the ride-hailing service operated under tinkataxi.com from CW, 2nd floor, Akamwesi Mall, Gayaza-Kampala Road, Kampala, Uganda. "You" means anyone using the Tinka app or website — rider or driver.

2. Account requirements

  • You must be 18 or older to use Tinka.
  • Your account information must be accurate (real name, real phone number).
  • One account per person — sharing accounts is prohibited.
  • You are responsible for keeping your password and OTP confidential.

3. Booking and fares

The fare you see at booking time is the fare you pay. Tinka rounds the final fare down to the nearest UGX 500. Additional fees (tolls, airport pickup, waiting time, route changes) are clearly itemised before they apply.

Surge pricing may apply in extreme demand periods. We always show the surge multiplier before you confirm.

4. Cancellations

You can cancel for free within 60 seconds of booking. After 60 seconds, a cancellation fee may apply to compensate the driver for time and fuel. Drivers cancelling repeatedly without cause may be suspended.

5. Payments

Riders can pay by cash, mobile money (MTN MoMo, Airtel Money), or card. Drivers are paid same-day via mobile money. Tinka takes a service commission from each completed trip — the percentage is shown to drivers transparently.

6. Conduct

Riders and drivers must treat each other respectfully and lawfully. Tinka prohibits:

  • Discrimination, harassment, or abuse.
  • Carrying weapons, illegal substances, or stolen goods.
  • Drinking alcohol in the vehicle.
  • Smoking without explicit consent.
  • Damaging the vehicle (driver may bill for cleaning/repair).

Violations may result in immediate account termination and police referral.

7. Driver responsibilities

Drivers must hold a valid licence, valid insurance, and a roadworthy vehicle. Drivers must accept rides through the app only (no off-platform cash deals), maintain a passenger helmet at all times (for boda), and follow Ugandan traffic law.

8. Liability

Tinka facilitates connections between independent drivers and riders. Drivers are not employees of Tinka. Tinka is not liable for delays, accidents, lost property, or driver behaviour, except where required by law. Drivers carry their own commercial insurance.

9. Account suspension

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, including fraudulent payments, harassment, fake bookings, repeated cancellations, or driving without required documents. You can appeal a suspension by emailing support@tinkataxi.com.

10. Disputes

Disputes are first handled by our Kampala support team. Unresolved disputes are subject to the courts of Uganda. Both parties agree to attempt good-faith resolution before legal action.

11. Changes

We may update these terms. The "Last updated" date reflects the most recent change. Continued use of Tinka after an update means you accept the new terms.
